Marcy Hess, owner of The Perfect 10 Strength Training, shares The Perfect 10 provides an ideal safe workout for everyone– but particularly for people concerned as they recover from injury or surgery or who are living with various illnesses.
How do the low-impact, slow movements of The Perfect 10 Strength Training work? How does this make it a safe workout?
What we do is high intensity strength training (HIT). The high intensity comes from moving very slowly and using the full range of motion of your muscles. With typical machines and free weights you’re only using one muscle group for 20 to 25 percent of the entire exercise.
We use equipment that was especially made for elite athletes and for rehabilitation. So, working with this equipment is very, very safe. You’re also working with a personal trainer. (Get to know our trainers here.) But you do work very, very hard for that 20 minutes once per week.
Can you share some unique uses of The Perfect 10 that might help people who aren’t sure if they’re ready to workout or not?
Yes, we have a client now who had injured her rotator cuff (See her story here.) and it was her doctor who suggested she come tp The Perfect 10 Strength Training to safely rebuild the muscle, healing the injury more quickly.
Another woman recently had abdominal surgery. She had to take so much time off working out so that she could recover and heal from her surgery that she really needed to work her core back up. She’s been back for the past month and is very pleased. She progressed very quickly.
This is excellent for arthritis. Many people know that the best way to reduce the pain from arthritis is to keep active and strengthen the muscles. That can help to reduce the pain and some inflammation that is involved in osteoarthritis and to stave off the continuation of arthritis getting worse.
There are many people with Parkinson’s disease who would probably think they couldn’t do this because with Parkinson’s people often have problems with balance and tremors. They do see improvements and they see the Parkinson’s not progressing as quickly.
The Perfect 10 Strength Training is also great for depression. We’re not saying that you shouldn’t go to your physician and stay on your proper medications for any of these conditions and illnesses. But, the more you exercise and the more you work your muscles, the better you feel, the stronger you get, the more balance you’ll have, the better your outlook will be on life, you’ll be burning calories, which means if you’re eating a healthy diet, you’ll start to lose weight. And you’ll see a change in your body regardless of how much weight you lose because the more muscle you have, the more fat you’ll burn. Muscle, though it weighs 2 ½ times what fat does, it takes up a lot less room in your body. So you start to see changes in your body, the way your clothes fit, the way you feel and your level of energy.
Have you come across some people who aren’t sure whether they’re capable of working out yet? What do you recommend for them?
Well if they’re under a doctor’s care, that their doctor thinks that it’s safe and that they can go back to exercise. If a doctor recommends you exercise or says you are ready, The Perfect 10 Strength Training is probably the safest, most effective exercise you could ever do.
It will take up the least amount of time and it will have the fastest results. (Hear what our clients have to say by clicking here.)Then you can get on with things. You can get back to life and enjoying life.
Because I am a nutritionist, I would say it is very important for everyone to eat a healthy diet—and that just means making healthy choices.
